A book for mother and daughter to read together, Celebrating the Cycle gives comprehensive information on menstruation, health, and hygiene. It includes uplifting stories from women's mythology, and suggestions for a ceremony to mark the special time when a girl begins her period. Over four hundred mothers contributed to this book to inform and inspire their daughters as they enter puberty. Celebrating the Cycle is a 145 page book, 8 1/2  by 11 format, with large, easy to read, type.  The illustrations are clear and playful.  The book contains three sections. The first section, Understanding the Cycle, is meant for moms and daughters to read together as the daughter approaches puberty.  It explains the female menstrual cycle and how to care for ourselves during menstruation. Related topics, such as nutrition, sleep, health and beauty, are also covered. In addition to providing accurate information, this section is intended to uplift the young woman's self esteem at this delicate time. The second section, Creating the Celebration, is meant for moms who want to honor their daughters with a celebration when the daughters begin menstruation. It contains mythology, poetry, and a variety of sample celebrations from different cultures. The last section, Sexuality and Birth, is meant for moms and daughters to read together when the daughter has more questions.  It contains detailed information about the woman's cycle and the male anatomy and physiology, a clear description of sexual relations, pregnancy, labor and childbirth, and breast feeding. The author, Marie Zenack, is a teacher of fertility awareness. As girls approach puberty, their mothers meet with Marie in small groups to learn about the reproductive cycle and to share their concerns and desires for their daughters. After the meeting of moms, another meeting is held which includes the daughters. At the second meeting the mothers, with Marie's help, provide empowering information and support for the girls entering womanhood.
